title: Builds
description: How Zeitlos builds and deploys your app, and how to trigger and inspect builds.
---

A build takes the current commit on your connected branch, builds your app, and deploys the
result. Everything a build produces is visible under **Builds** in your project.

## When builds happen

- **On every push** to the branch you connected when creating the project.
- **Manually**, from the **Builds** page — useful after changing an environment variable,
which does not itself trigger a build.

Only one build runs at a time per project. A newer build supersedes a queued one.

## Building a subdirectory

If your app lives in a folder of a larger repository, point Zeitlos at that path in
**Settings → General**. Only that directory is built and deployed, so a monorepo doesn't
have to be split up.

## When a build fails

Check the build logs to understand why it's failing. The failing command and its output are there in full.
